Summary

The loyalty technology landscape — platforms, CDPs, personalisation engines, and mobile — with guidance on evaluation and integration lift.

Why Take This Course

Your strategy is set. Now you have to choose technology to bring that strategy to life. If you want an understanding of the landscape in loyalty technology, with tips on assessing the lift for integration, this course is for you.

Before we talk about what loyalty technology does today, I want to spend a few minutes on where it came from. There are debates happening in the market right now — about composable architecture versus all-in-one suites, about AI integration, about data ownership — and none of them make sense without understanding the limitations of the generation that came before. Loyalty technology has gone through four distinct generations, and each one solved the constraints of the previous era while introducing new ones of its own. The first generation runs from the 1980s through the 1990s. This is the era of mainframes and batch processing. American Airlines launched AAdvantage in 1981 — and it ran on the same systems that managed reservations and yield management. Points were calculated overnight. Statements arrived by post, monthly. The technology was extraordinary for its time, but it was closed, slow, and siloed. You could run a loyalty program — you just couldn’t do very much with it beyond issuing points and mailing statements.

What You’ll Learn

Navigate the loyalty technology landscape with confidence. This course demystifies the stack, from loyalty platforms to CDPs, personalisation engines, and mobile apps, and shows how architecture decisions either unlock or limit your program’s potential. Learn evaluation criteria, integration complexity, and how AI is reshaping loyalty operations.

Key Topics

  • Technology stack components: POS, loyalty platform, CDP, personalisation, mobile
  • Integration patterns
  • Vendor evaluation
  • Data flow and consent
  • Emerging AI applications

Featured Framework: Integration Architecture — The Full 360° View

A complete system architecture showing how modern loyalty data flows, demonstrating that loyalty is a data-driven ecosystem rather than a points ledger.
